History of National Technology Day
On May 11, 1998 India has been tested it’s first nuclear bomb in Pokhran, Rajsthan. India conducted five nuclear tests with code name ‘Operation Shakti‘. These tests were overseen by the late A P J Abdul Kalam.
The first indigenous aircraft “Hansa-3” was test flown at Bangalore on May 11, 1998 and on the same day, India also performed the test firing of the Trishul missile successfully.
At that time very few countries have nuclear power and India had become one of those elite players and became the sixth country in the world to join the elite squad of nuclear armed nations. For all these tremendous achievements of the scientists and engineers, Former Prime Minister of India late Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared 11 May as the National Technology Day.
